TULSA, Okla. – Main camp has officially wrapped up and next up for the Tulsa Junior Oilers is training camp, adding the finishing touches for the 2024-25 season.
Camp was a success allowing head coach Zac Desjardins to get a look at many of the players who were tendered earlier in the offseason and see how they mesh with players that have already signed.
“I thought we had a good camp,” said head coach Zac Desjardins. “It was good to see some of the players that we tendered and drafted come in because I haven’t seen them play yet.”
Several of the players that came to camp were offered contracts, filling a majority of the roster spots. There are players with exciting potential and the Jr. Oilers aim to avoid a rut that many teams tend to have in their first season.
“I think as a group we’ve brought in some good talent to help support a team,” said Desjardins “We’ve got players that are going to be good fillers in some spots. The nice thing is that they’re all going to be ready to battle and help us not have the ‘first-year slump.’”
Looking to avoid that ‘first-year slump,’ the Jr. Oilers will have training camp the first week of September to put on the final touches before their inaugural NA3HL campaign. However, there are still some roster spots that will need to be filled.
“I think the next thing is we have some spots that we’ve got to fill,” said Dejsardins. “We had a couple of players that weren’t here that we’ve already signed, but the process right now is just to find a couple of players to fill in those spots that we’re missing right now.”
The season kicks off on Sept. 20 against the Austin Ice Bats. Puck drop from Ice and Field at The Crossover, in Cedar Hills, Texas is set for 8 p.m. All games this season will be broadcast on NATV.
