GOALTENDER DEREK HETLAND SIGNS WITH TULSA FOR ROOKIE SEASON

Goaltender Derek Hetland signs with Tulsa Oilers for the 2025-26 season.

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Oilers Junior Hockey Club, proud member of the North American 3 Hockey League and partner of the Marriott Tulsa Southern Hills and Ruffin Event Center, announced Thursday the signing of goaltender Derek Hetland for the 2025-26 season.

Hetland, 18, enters his first season of junior hockey after spending the last two seasons with Maple Grove High.

“Derek came into camp and battled every step of the way,” Head Coach Chi-Yin Tse said. “We were impressed by his relentless work ethic and the way he showed up as a great teammate. His entire career has been a grind, and we admire the effort he brings day in and day out. We’re excited to see him push our veterans and compete for a spot between the pipes. Our goal is to build an atmosphere of growth and development—and Derek fits that mold perfectly. We’re excited to have him in Tulsa.”

Hetland joins Ty Brander, Luke Yahola, Chase Boswell, Ethan Bellamy, Willy Fischer, Caleb Gamboa, Montana Medina, Toby House, Willy Fischer,  Jack Salverson, Evan Scholl, Henry Pinkerman, Kurtis Brachlow, Cassius Hook, Johnny Arruda, Noah Leriger, Charlie Scott, David Gifford and Stone Baulch as announced signings for the 2025-26 season. Stay tuned for more roster transactions as the offseason progresses.

The Oilers continue their homestand on Friday, Sept. 19, against the New Mexico Ice Wolves at 7:15 p.m. The weekend continues from the WeStreet Ice Center on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
